Do you have a transgender themed film you’ve produced or are in the process of shooting? If so the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival (SFTFF) is looking for entries for its 2024 Festival (November 13-24, 2024). Of special interest to the festival are films 20 minutes and under. No worries if your film is longer than 20 minutes, everyone is welcome to submit their work. What format is best? SFTFF accepts narrative, documentary, experimental, animated films, and music videos. Harrison Browne

One transgender filmmaker is looking for funding of a short film based on his life as a trans man athlete. Harrison Browne is a former professional hockey player in women’s hockey. To move ahead with his transition Browne retired from the sport in 2017. The film he has written follows a thirty-something trans man on his way to a wedding. Enroute to the wedding he time travels back and meets his pre-transition self. The film is titled Pink Light and Browne’s Kickstarter is accepting contributions till April 5. As a biopic on the life of Warhol superstar Candy Darling goes into production, starring Hari Nef in the title role, a new book about her life, Candy Darling: Dreamer, Icon, Superstar is now available. Darling appeared in several of Andy Warhol’s films and was a sought after actress on the New York City theatrical scene but she aspired to be a Hollywood star. Elliott Page has been absent from the silver screen since he came out as transgender in 2020. Yes, he did work on television starring in The Umbrella Academy but has had no motion picture roles. That’s been remedied with the release of his new film Close To You. Page stars as Sam, a trans man returning home for a family reunion. A place he hasn’t been since he started his transition. From the In Case You Missed It file comes a Canadian show titled Sort Of that debuted in 2022 and follows Sabi Mehboob, a gender-fluid 25-year-old Pakistani Canadian who is living in Toronto. They work as a bartender at an LGBTQ bookstore/bar, and are a nanny for Paul and Bessy’s two children. Sabi feels they don’t fit anywhere and longs to get away and explore their gender questions. There are three seasons of Sort Of available on Max.
