The director talks about a possible sequel to “Red, White & Royal Blue”

The movie “Red, White & Royal Blue” premiered on August 11th and raised expectations for a possible sequel. If it depends on the production director, Matthew López, the answer is yes! In an interview with Teen Vogue, he expresses interest in continuing the story of Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) and Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez).
“I would love to do a sequel — if we have the right story. I think there has to be a better reason than simply the desire to make one”, stated López. “I don’t think a sequel is a bad idea, but I don’t think a sequel for the sake of doing a sequel is necessarily sufficient.”
However, the filmmaker emphasizes the need to allow the first film to mature before considering a sequel. “What I will say is the movie is 72 hours old. Before I can start thinking of sequels, I’m still trying to understand the impact this movie has had on the world. And I’m incredibly grateful that it has been received with so much love and warmth and enthusiasm.“
“Red, White & Royal Blue,” inspired by Casey McQuiston‘s book, tells the love story between Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the new President of the United States (Uma Thurman), who quickly becomes a beloved figure in the American media. With beauty, charisma, and a captivating personality, Alex appears destined to follow in his parent’s footsteps and build a career in politics, a desire he holds deeply.
However, when his family is invited to the royal wedding of the British prince Philip, Alex he faces his first diplomatic challenge: dealing with Henry, Philip’s younger brother and the world’s most beloved prince, with whom he is often compared and with whom he has a complicated relationship.
Their initial encounter results in a disaster, widely covered by media outlets around the world. To avoid a diplomatic crisis, Alex and Henry are forced to spend a weekend pretending to be best friends. However, this facade soon turns into something neither of them could have predicted.
