How To Feminize Yourself Without Hormones (MTF): Top 10 Tips

Do you want to learn how to feminize yourself without hormones? If so, you are in the right place!

Gender affirming hormone therapy can be a big part of transitioning. But here’s the thing: you DON’T have to take hormones (or undergo surgery) to transition as a woman.

Maybe you can’t or don’t want to undergo hormone replacement therapy, or perhaps you’re looking for ways to feel more feminine while waiting to start HRT.

In this blog post, I will share tips on how to enhance your femininity as a transgender woman or crossdresser, regardless of whether or not you decide to undergo hormone therapy.

1. Apply Makeup

Adding makeup to your routine is one of the easiest ways to express your femininity without using hormones.

Makeup can help accentuate feminine features, such as full lips, high cheekbones, and defined eyes. There are plenty of tutorials available online if you want to learn how to apply makeup.

2. Change Your Name / Pronouns

Changing your name and pronouns can be a big part of the process of transitioning.

Choosing your female name can be exciting and even overwhelming. You may find that trying out a few different names can help you find the best fit.

You can also ask some friends or family members to test out the new names when addressing you to see how they make you feel. 

3. Wear Breast Forms / Hip Pads

Larger breasts and wider hips are often associated with a feminine figure. However, you don’t have to undergo surgery or hormone therapy to enhance your curves.

They key is to use the right body shapers. There are plenty of breast forms on the market that can give you realistic looking breasts.

And don’t forget about hip and butt pads. These can help balance out your body proportions and create a more feminine silhouette.

4. Feminize Your Voice

Developing a feminine voice is another way of transitioning without hormones.

You can find hundreds of tutorials online, especially on YouTube, to teach you how to achieve a more female-sounding voice. 

This is not a quick fix, however. It takes patience and practice. So, if you want to change your voice, start training it as soon as possible. 

5. Feminize Your Mannerisms

As you transition, it’s important to consider your mannerisms. This includes everything from your body language and gestures to the way you move and walk.

If your mannerisms project masculinity, it can make a big difference to learn how to move and carry yourself in a more feminine way.

6. Change Your Hairstyle

Changing your hairstyle is another easy way to transform your appearance.

Certain hairstyles are typically considered masculine or feminine, so this can be a powerful way to express your gender.

The easiest and most affordable option is to grow out your hair. But if you’re looking for an instant change or want to experiment with different styles, you can also wear a wig.

7. Update Your Wardrobe

Clothing is a powerful tool for expressing your gender, regardless of whether you’re taking hormones or not.

In addition to wearing feminine clothes like dresses and skirts, try experimenting with different colors. Colors like pink, purple, and pastels are often associated with femininity.

Don’t forget about accessories. Adding accessories like jewelry, cute shoes or a handbag can elevate any outfit and more you feel stylish and feminine.

8. Consider Herbs / Phytoestrogens

Some natural herbs and foods can boost estrogen or lower testosterone levels in the body.

Phytoestrogens are plant estrogens that can mimic the effects of estrogen. Certain plants also have anti-androgen qualities that can help reduce testosterone levels.

Some people find that adding these foods and supplements into their diet can have a mild hormone balancing and feminizing effect.

9. Change Bathroom / Facilities

Another change to consider is using the bathroom (or other facilities) that aligns with your gender.

Unfortunately, this has become very controversial in some states, so it’s important to know your rights.

This article from the National Center for Transgender Equality has a good overview of the rights transgender people have in public accommodations.

10. Update Your Legal Documents

Finally, updating your legal documents can be another important step in transitioning. Examples of this include:

  • Changing your legal name
  • Updating the sex listed on your birth certificate
  • Updating the name and gender on your driver’s license or passport

The laws around this vary by state and country. If you’re in the U.S., I recommend visiting the National Center for Transgender Equality website to learn about your rights as a transgender person.
