Last week, several conservative news sites reported that members of the Biden administration had tried to pressure some medical organizations to recommend gender-confirming surgery for transgender minors. The sources for the alleged information are questionable. However, even The New York Times printed a story based on this questionable information. This week, a spokesperson for the Biden administration said that they are opposed to gender-confirming surgery on minors. The comment was limited to surgery, meaning that the Biden administration still supports gender-affirming medical care for minors. The 19th has this story.
Last week, the Supreme Court struck down a ruling which had told courts that they should give a good bit of weight to the position of federal agencies in deciding cases. A federal judge in Mississippi used this ruling that the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services cannot immediately impose its new rule on the applicability of title IX to transgender students. this story comes from CNN.
We mentioned last week that the Supreme Court agreed to take up the constitutionality of Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender minors. This week, Judge Liles C. Burke announced that his decision on the constitutionality of Alabama’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors would be put off until the Supreme Court issues its decision. Liara Kaylee Tsui, a transgender woman, a DJ and producer, and a crisis counselor with the Trevor Project, was killed by a former romantic partner this week. Her body was found in the back seat of a car, which crashed on the highway. This story comes from Them.

The Cass Review got another critical response this week. Researcher from The Integrity Project, a group from Yale School of Medicine and Yale School of Law, say that the Cass Review “obscures key findings, misrepresents its own data, and is rife with misapplications of the scientific method.” This story appears in Erin In The Morning.
