Jamison Green

GRACE, short for Gender Research Advisory Council and Education is a new national nonprofit that aims to change the narrative of the trans community. The group is trans-led and one of the board members is Jamison Green, Ph.D., a trans man gender activist who’s well known in the Bay Area. The bill which contained more than a dozen anti-transgender riders in Georgia will not get passed this year, according to LGBTQ Nation. The Republicans tried to load a bill to fund mental health for minors with a lot of anti-transgender provisions, but the bill stalled in committee.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has vetoed a bill which would ban transgender athletes. The bill goes back to the state legislature, which may have enough votes to override the governor’s veto. The Hill has this story.

A federal judge in New York has denied a motion to block an order by Attorney General Letitia James, demanding the repeal of an executive order by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blackman which would ban transgender athletes from participating in women’s or girl’s sports. A new lawsuit in Ohio says that the ban on gender-affirming care for minors violates a constitutional amendment passed in 2011 which was supposed to limit the Affordable Care Act. The amendment, passed by the voters, includes a provision which prevents the government from prohibiting or imposing any penalty on the purchase or sale of health insurance or health care. The Department of Justice is suing the Utah Department of Corrections, after a transgender inmate cut off her own testicles, when the state denied her gender-affirming medical care. This story comes from The Hill.

Meraxes Medina

Meraxes Median, a 24-year-old transgender woman, was murdered in Los Angeles on March 19. Loved ones are stressing the need for tougher gun laws. KABC-TV News has this story.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has added a third gender identity to its forms. The “X” gender will mirror the option for passports. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

The United Nations adopted its first ever resolution on the rights of intersex people. It cites “medically unnecessary or deferrable interventions, which may be irreversible, with respect to sex characteristics,” as well as gender related discrimination. This story comes from The Advocate.

Two young men have been charged with selling Cecilia Gentili heroin laced with fentanyl, which led to her death. This story comes from Them.

Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers has written a legal opinion defending legislation which would restrict transgender people from accessing the restroom or locker room assigned to the gender with with they identify, as well a ban on transgender athletes. The legislation has not yet passed the state Senate, but has been proposed. KOLN has this story.

In Colorado, a group of conservatives have filed a lawsuit, claiming that the right to deadname a transgender person is protected under the First Amendment right to free speech. This story comes from Courthouse News.

In Ohio, both Democrats and Republicans have introduced measures to handle the matter of transgender candidates for office having to list their deadnames on the ballots and nominating petitions. Judith Butler

Nonbinary author and gender theorist Judith Butler has written a book titled Who’s Afraid of Gender?. Read a review in The New York Times.

A study by SSRN shows that applicants who list they/them pronouns on their resumes have a lesser chance of being hired. The Advocate has this story.

A study by the University of Colorado at Aurora found that bone mineral density of transgender youths on gender-affirming hormone therapy was, on average, slightly lower than average, but still within the normal range. In Britain, NHS is supposed to open two new gender identity clinics for trans youths this month, but it appears that the clinics are not ready yet. “They’re not fully staffed, they’re not fully trained.” This story comes from PinkNews.

When transgender women (known locally as “hijras”) were not allowed to worship at other mosques in Bangladesh, they built their own mosque, on land donated by the government. This story comes from Them.
