Governor Jared Polis of Colorado signed legislation to protect gender-affirming medical treatments in that state. This is a sign to families who want to relocate from states which are restricting gender-affirming care, especially for minors. The Advocate has this story.
The third transgender woman killed in Atlanta this year was Koko Da Doll. She had been featured in the documentary Kokomo City which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year. Koko Da Doll was also known as Rasheeda Williams. HuffPost has an obituary.
Dame Edna
Barry Humphries, the Australian comedian who created the alter ego Dame Edna Everage has passed away due to complications of hip replacement surgery. He was 89. His career spanned seven decades and went from comedy clubs to the Broadway stage. His obituary can be found in Playbill.
Trans man Loren Cameron is dead at 63. Cameron became known after the publication of his book of portraits of trans men, Body Alchemy: Transsexual Portraits, published in 1996. The cause of death was suicide. Cameron had been suffering for several years with congestive heart failure. You can find his obituary in The New York Times.
The University of Victoria’s Chair in Transgender Studies has announced their scholarships and fellowships for 2023. Students at the school may be eligible for several types of scholarships in varying amounts. Learn more from The University of Victoria website.
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill which would impose a nationwide ban on transgender females competing in athletics against cis-females. The bill now heads to the Senate, which is unlikely to even take it up in committee. ABC News has this story.
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has signed into law legislation which makes gender-affirming care for minors illegal. The legislation could put doctors in prison if they prescribe puberty blockers for gender dysphoria. This story comes from NBC News.
Florida extended its “Parental Rights in Education Act” through 12th grade. Discussions of gender identity or sexual orientation are not permitted in school except in a sex-education class, and enrollment in that class requires parental consent. The Advocate has this story.
Florida’s House of Representatives passed a ban on puberty blockers. a ban on minors attending a drag show, and a bathroom bill. This story comes from Newsweek.
The Florida state Senate will soon vote on a bill that would allow the state to take children away from parents who approve of gender-affirming care. That bill goes to the entire Senate for a vote. The bill did get modified in committee, removing some provisions, according to Them.
Port St. Lucie, Florida, has cancelled its Pride parade, due to fear of the new anti-drag law. The law has not yet been signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, but the city decided to cancel the parade now. LGBTQ Nation has this story.

Molly Kearney, the nonbinary member of the Saturday Night Live cast, dropped in on the Weekend Update segment to call attention to the swarm of anti-transgender bills being proposed in state legislatures. The Advocate has this story.
St. Louis Public Radio reports gender clinics in Missouri are having trouble getting appointments for transgender patients prior to the beginning of state Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s emergency restrictions on gender-affirming care, which require adults to get a year and a half of psychological care before they can receive medical treatment.
The families of three transgender children have filed suit against the state of Tennessee over its most recent anti-transgender law banning gender-affirming care for minors. The Hill has this story.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has vetoed at least four more anti-transgender bills. The state legislature will try to override her vetoes. This story comes from the Associated Press.
Chelsea Gilliam
Chelsea Gilliam, a transgender woman serving time in a prison in Baltimore, is suing, claiming cruel and unusual treatment in a men’s prison. She claims she was sexually assaulted and denied her hormone treatment. WBAL-TV has this story.
The Kentucky Department of Education released its new guidance on the the state’s version of “Don’t Say Gay.” WKYT-TV reports that the guidance seems to cause some confusion.
There were protests in Texas, where transgender rights legislation is making its way through the legislature. Hundreds of protesters showed up, according to The Advocate.
In Florida, as legislators discussed even more anti-transgender legislation, some demonstrators threw underwear at them featuring slogans on the underwear that chastised the legislators for their obsession with what is in someone else’s pants. This story comes from Them.
Five Thirty Eight reports that voters in red states want anti-transgender legislation, according to polling. While that seems likely, one wonders if those voters want their legislators to spend so much time on anti-transgender legislation that nearly nothing else gets done.

A new guidance from the government of the United Kingdom was leaked. It requires teachers to notify parents when their child changes gender at school, although there appear to be some exceptions for cases where there is the risk of “significant harm” if the parents are told of their child’s gender identity. It also seems that the guidance may prevent single-sex schools from accepting transgender students whose gender identity matches the gender of the school’s students. PinkNews has this story.

A video of a nonbinary officer of the U.S. Navy, Lt. Audrey Knutson, reading a poem aboard a ship caught the attention of Republicans in Congress, who said that they made the Navy look weak. The New York Times reports how, after a Supreme Court ruling made same-sex marriage legal across the United States, transgender rights became the issue that got social conservatives to get involved.
