Cecilia Gentili

This past Thursday the pews at St. Patrick’s Cathedral were packed with mourners for the funeral of trans activist and entertainer Cecilia Gentili. After the service Catholics were outraged that Ms. Gentili’s family was allowed to have a funeral service in St. Patrick’s. The Archdiocese of New York had harsh words about the event. A new bill in the Illinois legislature would give tax credits to those who relocate to the state to avoid a ban on gender-affirming care in their previous home state. The tax credits would also be available to teachers who relocate because of restrictions on teaching about gender identity, sexual orientation, or race. The Hill has this story.

The ACLU has filed suit against the state of Virginia, over its model policies on dealing with transgender students. The policies, which deny the rights of transgender students, are said to violate both local and federal law. This story comes from Reuters.

The Utah State Board of Education voted to censure Natalie Cline, a member, who will be stripped of her committee assignments and barred from attending meetings. The Board of Education also encouraged her to resign by February 19. She questioned whether a particular student was transgender in a social media post; it turns out that the student is cisgender, and has been the recipient of online harassment as a result of the post. Legislators in Maryland have proposed a bill to expand a recently-enacted law which shields health care workers who help provide people from outside the state with access to abortion. The proposed expansion would also cover those health care workers who provide gender-affirming health care to people who do not live in the state. This story comes from Maryland Matters.

The 2024 Miss Tiffany’s Universe pageant, also known as Miss Trans Thailand, concluded on February 5 with Saruda Pimai Panyakham emerging victorious from a pool of 29 contestants. See photos and get more info on the pageant and the contestants from The UBJ.

An Indiana couple has asked the Supreme Court to consider their rights as parents of a transgender child. The couple, Mary and Jeremy Cox, rejected their child’s gender identity as female, and refused to allow that child to transition genders. According to them, they were charged with abuse by the state, though the charges were later dropped. The Catholic News Agency has this story.

A new bill in the Wyoming legislature would declare that gender-affirming care is “not in the best interest” of transgender children, and would allow the state’s Child Protective Services to remove the child from the care of the parents. The Los Angeles Blade has this story from Erin Reed.

In West Virginia, a bill to forbid the use of intersex or non-binary markers on birth certificates has passed the state House of Representatives. This story comes from Them.

The New Republic reports that the Dobbs decision is already being used to defend laws which oppose gender-affirming care for transgender people.

Legislators in Tennessee are considering a bill which would require doctors who provide gender-affirming medical care to fill out forms that would allow the state to identify the patients. WBIR-TV News has this story. Get the story from the Dallas Observer.

Callie Butcher is a transgender woman from Texas who is seeking Colin Allred’s House District 32 seat in Congress. The district, solidly blue, covers parts of Dallas, Plano, Richardson and Garland. Butcher, the president of the Dallas LGBT Bar Association, is the first trans candidate in a major party primary in Texas. Get more on the story from the Dallas Observer.

A transgender patient is suing a hospital in Colorado for cancelling his chest reconstruction surgery. Apparently, this particular hospital stopped providing any gender-affirming surgery. This story comes from the Colorado Sun.

An unidentified transgender teenager was stabbed in the neck 14 times during a birthday party at a roller rink in London. She survived the attack and is recovering at home. This story comes from Them.

A Maryland man has been charged with raping and robbing transgender women whom he met on a dating app. The Advocate<?a> has this story.

Lilly Wachowski

Lilly Wachowski has agreed to direct Trash Mountain. The story concerns a son who returns home to settle his late father’s affairs, only to find that father was a hoarder. It will be her first solo directing effort. This story comes from Them.
