Last week, the American media company Gannett, headquartered in Tysons Corner, Virginia, announced that it is looking for two reporters: one to cover stories related to singer Beyoncé at USA Today and the other to inform readers of The Tennessean about Taylor Swift.

The company expressed its interest in professionals with at least five years of experience in digital journalism, with a “clear and concise writing style” and a “deep understanding of metrics and how to use data to understand audience behavior and inform coverage decisions”, capable of capturing “not just the music, but the meaning and the growing legacy of both artists and the impact they have on the global music scene”.

The future hires must be available for international travel and willing to live in the United States, even if the position is “home office” based. The compensation for the full-time position ranges from $21.63 to $50.87 per hour worked, approximately R$ 105 to R$ 247 at the current dollar exchange rate.

Kristin Roberts, Gannett’s Chief Content Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing readers with quality content, stating that Taylor Swift is shaping a generation and is a relevant, influential, and innovative figure. She mentioned that covering the artist is essential to meet readers’ expectations.

“Swift’s fan base has grown to unprecedented levels, as has the significance of her music and her growing legacy. We are seeking an energetic writer, photographer, and social media professional who can quench an insatiable thirst for all things Taylor Swift with a steady flow of content across multiple platforms. Examining both the facts and the ‘fury’, the Taylor Swift reporter will identify why the pop star’s influence continues to expand, what her fan base represents in pop culture and the impact she has on the world of music and business”, the company commented on the position for The Tennessean.

  • A clear and concise writing style;
  • A comprehensive understanding of metrics and how to use data to comprehend audience behavior and inform coverage decisions;
  • Strong command;
  • Availability to travel extensively;
  • Ability to report in more than one preferred language;
  • This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and minimum liability insurance as required by state law;
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer pre-employment background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug test.
