The civil servant Luiz Carlos Pereira de Lima, known for the “green card” meme from The Week (a card that provided benefits at the now-defunct nightclub owned by entrepreneur André Almada, such as free entry to the establishment), passed away early last Monday (18th).

Openly gay, Carlos was found lifeless in the bathtub of a room at Hotel Chilli Pepper, located in Largo do Arouche, São Paulo (SP), Brazil. The information was confirmed by friends and family to GAY BLOG BR.

Lima ran for city councilor in Guarulhos in the 2020 elections. He was a public servant in the city and a nurse, with dozens of friends in the City Council, where he worked in the medical sector.

The São Paulo State Public Security Department (SSPSP) was contacted by GAY BLOG BR and responded to the request for a statement regarding the death:

“Here is the information from the police report: The Civil Police are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man whose body was found around 2 a.m. on Monday (18) in a hotel in Largo do Arouche, in the central region of São Paulo, Brazil. The Military Police were called to support the ambulance team and found the victim already lifeless in a bathtub. Examinations were requested from the Institute of Criminalistics (IC) and the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The incident was recorded as a suspicious death at the 2nd Police District (Bom Retiro, São Paulo, Brazil). The 3rd Police District (Campos Elíseos) is working to find witnesses and other elements that can assist in the investigations. Examinations were requested from the Institute of Criminalistics (IC) and the Legal Medical Institute (IML), and their reports are being prepared to help clarify the cause of death”. said to the São Paulo State Public Security Department (SSPSP) to GAY BLOG BR.

After the case gained attention on social media, Hotel Chilli released a statement expressing condolences:

“We deeply regret the passing of a guest on the premises of our hotel during the early hours from Sunday to Monday. He was found lying inside the bathtub in one of the our suites, and from the security footage, it appeared that he was alone at the time of the incident”, states the statement.We have not yet received the forensic report, so we do not have further information at this time. In nearly 12 years at Largo do Arouche, this is the third death to occur within our premises. We reiterate that we are in compliance with all current safety regulations. We have the updated Fire Department Inspection Certificate (AVCB), and all our equipment is in full working order. To friends and family, our heartfelt condolences. The management team”.
