As we mentioned in the news, the campaign of Former President Donald Trump has been repeating an ad which attacks Vice President Kamala Harris for her support of gender-affirming care for transgender people. It turns out that anti-transgender themes do no play well with the general electorate. The voters want to hear about the economy and immigration, themes on which Republicans do well, but not so much on transgender people, a topic which just isn’t that important to voters. For leaving their best issues behind in order to stress culture-war topics, even though this is shown not to work, the campaign of Former President Donald Trump gets a TWIT.. Micah Beckwith, the Republican nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Indiana, said that he would fire any state workers who have their pronouns in their e-mail signature. For ramping up an issue which the voters don’t care about, and for running the risk of being seen as too tied to the culture war and not concerned with more relevant issues, Micah Beckwith gets a TWIT. Eighty-two conservative legislators from across the nation have signed on to a 42-page amicus curiae brief from the American Family Association which uses quotes from the Bible to bolster its claims that states should have the right to regulate gender-affirming medical care to minors. The first obvious problem with this is that nothing in the Constitution or in the U.S. Code makes the Bible the law of the land. A second problem is that the specific gender-affirming care covered int he law is a lot newer than the Bible. In addition to those points, it just seems to be a bad idea to have lawyers determining what sorts of medical care people can get. For promoting government overreach, for ignoring the science behind gender-affirming medical care, and for reading your culture war views into the Bible and pushing them on Biblical grounds, the signers of this brief from the American Family Association get a TWIT. Do No Harm, a group which promotes medical practices which studies show do not work as well on transgender patients as gender-affirming medical care, have compiled a list of what they call the “worst-offending children’s hospitals” in the United States. These twelve hospitals are said to be “promoting sex change treatments for minors,” even though surgery is rarely performed on minors. For insisting that these hospitals are practicing bad medicine without actually giving a scientific reason why they should not use what statistics show works best, and for hyperbole in releasing these results, Do No Harm gets a TWIT. Marjorie Taylor Greene insists on X that Democrats are creating hurricanes with some sort of new technology. First, technology does not follow political bounds, so any technology which could control the weather could be used by Republicans as well. Secondly, if Democrats did control the weather, wouldn’t they target Mar-A-Lago, to rain on Former President Trump’s golf games? She cites patents for weather-controlling technologies, but these patents are mostly for things which do not work, as LGBTQ Nation points out. She also tweeted that FEMA is anti-Christian because they actually want transgender people to be able to get relief. For citing patents that don’t work in order to promote the myth of weather-controlling technology, and for citing concern for others as proof that FEMA is anti-Christian, Marjorie Taylor Greene gets a TWIT.
