The Republican candidates held a presidential debate in Milwaukee. Although the frontrunner was not there, there were still many falsehoods spoken. Transgender female students were referred to as “biological boys,” despite the fact that biologists keep saying that chromosomes are not an accurate determination of gender. For continuing to claim to know more about science than scientists, and more about medicine than doctors, these Republican candidates get a Twit Award. The Advocate has this story.
Tim Scott used his 45-seconds at the end of the Republican debate taking a way-too-simplistic swipe at transgender athletes. “If God made you a man, you play sports against men.” For using this opportunity to take a cheap shot at something so trivial, Senator Tim Scott gets a Twit Award. Far-right-wing commentator Tim Pool made comments blaming Hurricane Hilary, which struck California, as God’s revenge for drag queens. First, it is interesting that most hurricanes form in the south Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico, and come ashore at such conservative states as Texas, Florida, or the Carolinas. Yet, these far-right commentators don’t say that those storms are God’s revenge for conservative policies, despite the fact that the conservative policies are very far from what Jesus promoted in the Gospels. Moreover, the first warning of Hurricane Hilary did not come from some prophet, but from meteorologists. That’s not how the Bible tells us that God operates. As for drag queens who were invited to Pride Night at Dodger Stadium, the alleged cause of the hurricane, it is clearly a stretch to say that any verse of the Bible is a condemnation of drag queens. For using bad theology to blame a group he is prejudiced against for a natural disaster, while not seeing a similar connections elsewhere, Tim Pool gets a Twit Award. LGBTQ Nation has this story.
In a discussion of LGBTQ rights on Newsmax, far-right commentator and self-described “personal empowerment advocate” Shemeka Michelle said, “We need to be more homophobic. We need to take it up a notch because we failed to shame them.” For failing to realize that denying others the right to live their life as they wish is not shaming them but rather shaming yourself, and for suggesting that bad logic will become good logic if it is louder, Shemeka Michelle gets a Twit Award. As we mentioned in the news, Vince Furnier, who typically uses the stage name Alice Cooper, made a series of transphobic comments in an interview this week. He mentioned the much-discredited theory of the bathroom predator, and the false notion of litter boxes in restrooms for furries. For repeating false information and using it to promote the denial of rights to others, Vince Furnier a.k.a. Alice Cooper gets a Twit Award. This story comes from Billboard.
Carlos Santana has apologized for “insensitive” remarks that he made about transgender people, including the comment that, “A woman is a woman and a man is a man.” The comments came during a concert. His comments relied on “When God made you,” yet the Bible says, “Not as Man judges does God judge.” For imposing human judgement on God, and for getting all worked up about transgender people rather than real injustices in the world, Carlos Santana gets a Twit Award.
