As we mentioned in the news, the Republican National Convention took place this week. In the light of an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, speakers at the convention were asked to tone down the rhetoric a bit. Yet, several speakers, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Ron DeSantis, went out of their way to make attacks on transgender people. For opposing civil rights, and for failing to abide by the policy of toning down the language, all those who attacked transgender people in their speeches share a Twit Award. The 19th has this story.

Alpha Phi Alpha, a fraternity for Black college men, has taken moves towards adopting a policy of denying membership to transgender men. Membership would be limited to “naturally born males,” according to a bylaw change approved by members. For caving to demands from the loudest voices, and for abandoning their support of civil rights for all, Alpha Phi Alpha gets a Twit Award. This story comes from The Advocate.

Valentina Gomez, a candidate for Missouri Secretary of State, has issued silly attacks on State Representative Barbara Phifer, over Representative Phifer’s transgender grandchild. Valentina Gomez wrote on X, “You have a trans grandchild. That means you raised a groomer. You failed your children, and they failed your grandchildren. Also, you’re irrelevant and belong in a nursing home.” For continuing to use the lame, never-accurate “groomer” insult, and for calling someone else “irrelevant” in a misguided attempt to boost her own relevance, Valentina Gomez gets a Twit Award. The Advocate has this story.

Following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, a rumor started circulating on social media, saying that the shooter, Matthew Thomas Crook, was a transgender woman. There was even a picture of a specific transgender woman, who looks fairly close to the shooter, attached, along with a real photo of the shooter. It turns out that the photo is not of the shooter, but of someone else, and it turns out that the person in the photo is still alive and addressed her photo going viral. For making stuff up, and for spreading the false rumor when it has been shown to be false, everyone involved in spreading this misinformation gets a Twit Award. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.

Elon Musk announced that he is moving X and Space X from California to Texas, in response to Governor Gavin Newsom signing a bill which protects transgender students from being forcibly outed to their parents. For supporting the denial of civil rights to some, and for being a temperamental sorehead, Elon Musk gets a Twit Award. The New York Post has this story.

Speaking of X, a story in LGBTQ Nation reveals that several LGBTQ accounts on the social media platform were deleted in what appears to be a deliberate move. At least some of the sites say that they were told that they had violated the rules of the site, without being told what specific rule they violated. If this is indeed true, X gets a Twit Award, for making up new rules and retroactively enforcing them.
