Everyone knows that Donald Trump will implement anti-LGBTQ policies in general, and anti-transgender policies in specific. So, how does the Trump campaign appeal to LGBTQ people and their allies? According to an article in LGBTQ Nation, the basic pitch has been enunciated by spokesperson Karoline Leavitt. “President Trump’s second term agenda will create a safer and more prosperous America for ALL Americans, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or creed.” But, his first term was suspiciously lacking in prosperity, featuring an economy in which the rich got a lot richer, while the rest of the population got left behind. As for a “safer” America, civil rights make people safer, while Donald Trump promoted judges who oppose civil rights. For failing to see how opposing civil rights makes us less safe and less prosperous, the Donald Trump campaign gets a Twit Award.

Opponents of LGBTQ people have noticed that a lot of transgender people are on the autism scale. These anti-LGBTQ people have developed rhetoric in which they claim that autistic people are being “fooled” into being non-binary. But, as Jorie McKibbin points out in LGBTQ Nation, this theory presumes that autistic people are extremely susceptible to pressure, which is not proven. For failing to give autistic people credit for the mental abilities that they have, those who support this theory get a Twit Award.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox signed a resolution on Friday, June 21, officially committing Utah to ignore upcoming changes to Title IX that are meant to add protections for transgender children. The new rules are slated to go into effect in August and would directly clash with Utah’s new transgender bathroom law. For creating laws based on lies about transgender people that do nothing but oppress transgender people we give the Utah legislature and governor a shared TWIT Award.
