Florida state Representative Webster Barnaby called transgender people “mutants” and “demons” in a speech. He said, “It’s like I’m watching an X-Men movie.” While he has since apologized for the remarks, they still earn him a Twit Award. The Hill has this story.

Florida state Representative Randy Fine has introduced a bill banning drag performance in spaces where children may be present. In a speech defending his bill, he said, “If this means ‘erasing a community’ because you have to target children–then damn right, we ought to do it.” For not caring about the damage to a community that the legislation could cause, and for poor word choice, Florida state Representative Randy Fine gets a Twit Award. This story comes from The Advocate.

Scott Colom, a district attorney from Mississippi, was nominated for a judicial appointment. That nomination was blocked by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi, who claimed that Mr. Colom supports transgender rights and received funding from George Soros. For turning a judicial nomination into a political show, and for prejudice, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith gets a Twit Award. The Advocate has this story.

Although Warner Brothers had a five-movie deal with J.K. Rowling for the Fantastic Beasts movie series, the studio has no plans for filming the final two movies for that series. However, their streaming service, HBO Max, announced a TV adaptation of the Harry Potter books which have already been made into films. Casey Bloys, the chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max, said that backlash over J.K. Rowling’s anti-transgender views is not a concern. “That’s a very online conversation, very nuanced and complicated, and not something we’re going to get into.” While the network would no doubt like to avoid any discussion of the author’s views of transgender people, the audience will decide if they still care about the characters that J.K. Rowling created. For not listening to the audience, who has clearly diminished as far as the Fantastic Beasts franchise is concerned, Casey Bloys gets a Twit Award. This story comes from PinkNews.

As we pointed out last week, it’s hard to find a mass-market beer which has not announced that it supports LGBTQ people. (Marjorie Taylor Greene found this out this week, when she announced that she switched from Bud Light to Coors Light. Several Twitter users pointed out that Coors has a record of supporting Pride. LGBTQ Nation collected some of the responses she got.) It seems that Seth Weathers has come up with a product to fill his hole in the market. He is marketing Conservative Dad’s Ultra Right Beer, a beer which he describes as “woke-free.” The beer will skip such things as transportation to distributors by being available online. And that decision means that the beer costs $20 per six-pack, a significant increase in price over the other brands. For aiming all advertising at a small segment and then pricing the product such that most of the segment cannot afford the product, Seth Weathers gets a Twit Award. PinkNews has this story.

Elon Musk finally stopped “just asking” questions about transgender people, and tweeted, “Any parent or doctor who sterilizes a child before they are a consenting adult should go to prison for life.” Does that include those who “fix” their intersex child’s gender, or is it just the ones who wait until the child is old enough to express an opinion on the matter of who should go to jail? No transgender person has been documented to have gender-confirmation surgery before age 16, but intersex children have been documented to have surgery on their genitals before they can speak. For getting all worked up about something that is not happening, while ignoring the similar thing which actually happens, and which conservative politicians are fighting to keep legal despite medical organizations saying it is almost never necessary, Elon Musk gets a Twit Award. Oh, and if his “sterilization” comment was referring to puberty blockers or HRT, despite the fact that people who took those medications have shown themselves to not be sterile, that’s all the more reason for him to get a Twit Award. This story comes from Them.
