As we mentioned in the news, the Department of Education wants to strip transgender athletes of the titles and awards that they won, and give those to whoever came in second. For trying to retroactively strip transgender athletes of their accomplishments, and give those to someone who did not earn them, the Department of Education gets a TWIT. Reuters has this story.
Google Calendar has removed Pride Month, along with Black History Month, Native American Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Jewish Heritage Month, and Holocaust Remembrance Day. A spokesperson for Google said that the number of things on that calendar was not “sustainable.” They also say that users can add their own events to Google calendar. For removing events which are suspiciously woke, after agreeing to remove DEI incentives from its hiring practices, Google, and the company which provides information for Google Calendar, Timeanddate.com, share a TWIT. This story comes from The Verge has this story.
As we also mentioned in the news, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that it would end enforcement of a rule which forbade homeless shelters from discriminating against transgender people. For forcing homeless transgender people to choose between getting shelter from the cold and their gender identities, and for saying “The Lord” wants discrimination against transgender people, the Department of Housing and Urban Development gets a TWIT. An article in The 19th* notes that the hyperbole used by President Trump and his Republican colleagues to denounce transgender people seems to be similar to descriptions of female circumcision, a practice which has been denounced as a human rights violation. For not caring that their political hyperbole makes light of a human rights violation, the Trump administration gets a TWIT.
The Trump administration has stopped the distribution of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent the spread of HIV in foreign countries. Now, a clarification says that the agency which distributes PrEP, PEPFAR, can distribute the medication, but just not to those who support transgender people or DEI. For making LGBTQ+ organizations choose between supporting transgender people and getting anti-HIV medication, the Trump administration gets another TWIT. This story comes from Them.
The Utah state House Education Committee has advanced a bill which would outlaw Pride flags in schools in the state. The bill, H.B. 77, actually lists several flags which it does not allow. However, it suspiciously does not forbid schools from displaying a Nazi flag or a Confederate flag. In fact, the sponsor of the bill, Representative Trevor Lee, said that both the Nazi flag and the Confederate flag were “historic versions of a flag,” which the bill says may be “temporarily displayed for educational purposes.” For forbidding Pride flags but allowing Nazi flags and Confederate flags to be displayed, the supporters of this bill get a TWIT. U.S. Representative Sarah McBride has made her first speech on the floor of the House of Representatives. However, Representative Mary Miller, who was the Acting Speaker of the House at the time, recognized her as the “gentleman from Delaware.” For deliberately misgendering Representative McBride, and for bragging about doing so on social media, Representative Mary Miller gets a TWIT. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.
