Karlo Karrera is a 6’1” stud and was one of the first porn actors in the “straight” adult entertainment industry to film with trans women, raising the banner of diversity in a sometimes very standardized career.

Born in the Dominican Republic and based in Los Angeles, United States, Karrera walked so that other giants, such as Xander Corvus and Ramon Nomar, could “run”, or rather, surf in the cis straight men market recording with trans actresses.

In this exclusive interview with Inside Porn, the 42-year-old actor talks about the prejudice he faced and guarantees that, despite being hardcore in the scenes, he is a “sweetheart” in real life. Karrera also talks about the reality show she participated in in the United States and explains why she turned down a spot on The Bachelor.

Is it true that you are a paramedic?

Karlo Karrera: Yes. I started working in the industry in 2008 in Miami, Florida. And yes, I’m a licensed paramedic, believe it or not (laughs). While studying, I worked for an ambulance company and, at the same time, used my physical attributes to model for brands such as Macy’s and Nordstrom. At one of these photo-shoots I met a photographer, who ended up becoming a girlfriend, and she asked me if I could have sex in front of a camera and I laughed. From the joke something serious emerged: days later she introduced me to an agent and I started shooting about two scenes a week while I was still in college and working full time.

And is the money worth it?

Karlo Karrera: Yes, you can say that. But nothing beats the passion I had for joining the Fire Department working as a paramedic. You know, I feel very comfortable making decisions that might not be common for most people. It’s hard, but for me it wasn’t. I felt like the degree was going to come anyway, so I graduated and, as an open-minded individual who likes to take chances with new things, I came to see porn as a career.

You said on Twitter that porn has changed in 2021. Is today much different than the decade you started with?

Karlo Karrera: Absolutely. When I started, over a decade ago, the industry was already changing, the internet made everyone rich and the same internet made everyone poor. Everyone had to reinvent themselves. In my case, I know that I and other colleagues are redefining what it is to be a porn actor in 2021.

And you mean porn with transsexual women, right?

Karlo Karrera: Yes. Since I started filming with trans women, it seems like everyone now wants to do the same (laughs). Someone needs to get started, don’t they?

Why this change in the direction of the industry?

Karlo Karrera: Karlo Karrera: Well… there is financial potential in this market, so it’s natural for there to be this change in perspective. I’ve always had friends who are part of this industry. In fact, it was a girlfriend from my college days who introduced me to this market. People call me an opportunist, but the truth is that I combined my sexual preferences with the opportunity to work in the same way I like to fuck in real life: with passion.

You can name Xander Corvus, Ramon Nomar and Small Hands as the last to enter the trans market. Do you think you paved the way for this to happen?

Karlo Karrera: I’m proud of that. Though I’ve never felt the need to prove anything to anyone. I’m grateful to Ramon Nomar, who gave me a hand when I arrived in Los Angeles 11 years ago and Xander is one of the nicest guys I know. They are excellent at what they do, and they always keep people interested in their work. They are part of a great porn team worldwide.

Do you think other famous names will start filming with trans women from now on?

Karlo Karrera: Laughs. Damn right! In fact, many are already recording scenes for their Onlyfans. And it’s fine!

Would you go back to making gay movies with men?

Karlo Karrera: Unfortunately, no. As I said before, passion is what makes me different in this industry – besides being that giant you see on the scene, laugh. So I have my preference for trans women and film with them.

Are you a bully in real life like we see in movies?

Karlo Karrera: No. Karlo Karrera: No. If you ask someone who knows me personally, they’ll say I’m a friendly giant, a sweetheart.

Is it possible to separate the two guys who live in one, actor Karlo from Mario?

Karlo Karrera: I can do it. But it’s not for everyone. I try to keep things simple.

What do you mean?

Karlo Karrera: In my mind, porn is a job that pays me well and I’m good at it for a living, so it’s a matter of finding balance and always having goals, because after being in the industry for over a decade, it’s not just about having sex with the most famous professionals or filming for the top studios anymore. You need to stay in the game. In or out of porn.

Speaking of outside porn, I’m pretty sure I saw you on an episode of a reality show once.

Karlo Karrera: It’s true. Some people know me outside of porn too. I did “Millionaire Matchmaker Sons of Anarchy”. My old agent when I moved to Los Angeles arranged these shows for me. (Karlos was also a contestant on MTV’s Thressome).

Was it you on the show or Karlo Karrera?

Karlo Karrera: Karlo Karrera: No, that was me as Mario (his real name). I came between the two finalists in season 6 of MMM, so they wanted to bring me back so that I could say in the final, live, that I was actually a porn star. The day before, I called them and said I was still not comfortable doing this on national television. But now I wish I had.

Wait. Did you refuse to return to the show?

Karlo Karrera: Yes. The show was about dating. The production put two millionaires and 60 contestants. I was one of the 60 and the girl liked me. I went pretty far in the game.

Would you do another reality show on TV?

Karlo Karrera: I would, but at the time I was quite reluctant. I was invited to be on The Bachelor once, and I turned it down.

Why? For the porn issue?

Karlo Karrera: Yes. The person doing the cast had no idea that I’m an adult actor, so for that particular show, I don’t think it would work.

Do you think porn has become the mainstream?

Karlo Karrera: Absolutely. Porn is everywhere. Women, men, gays watch tons of pornography and now it’s all there with social media and such, and people are accepting more pornography. It’s no longer taboo like it used to be.
