For the second year in a row, Instagram won, with 46% of popular preference, the trophy of the 2021 Poc Awards in the “Friendly Platform” category, intended for the social network that most acted against LGBTphobia in 2021.
“For us, it is an immense happiness to be chosen for the second year in a row as the most friendly platform for the LGBTQIA+ community. For over a decade, we have been working to promote a positive and inclusive community where everyone can express themselves freely and safely, being who they really are.” says Melissa Amorim Magrani, Instagram Communications Director, to GAY BLOG BR.
“Diversity is one of our key values and a big part of what makes Instagram, Instagram. We want to be by the side, listen and participate in the construction of these stories. That’s why we develop projects capable of reflecting this plurality”, emphasizes the director.
“Compartilhe com Orgulho” (Share With Pride) was Instagram’s latest diversity-focused project, which Eduardo Camargo (Edu) andFilipe Oliveira (Fih), fromDiva Depressão, were invited to interview other LGBTQIA+ content creators on the platform to address how they are defying societal standards and conventions.
Among Melissa’s favorite projects is another that has the LGBTQIA+ community at its center and organizations like Todxs, Aliança Nacional pela Diversidade (National Alliance for Diversity) and Mães pela Diversidade (Mothers for Diversity): “In seven episodes, ‘Orgulho Família’ (Family Pride) talks about acceptance and gender identity through stories about ‘coming out’ experiences”, tells her.
“But if on the one hand we work to amplify the diverse voices of our community, on the other hand we understand our responsibility to create the systems and tools necessary for everyone to feel safe, protected and in control of their experiences within Instagram. We will continue to advance in this area with expert and community feedback.” concludes the director of communication of Instagram.
