A 14-year-old was denied medical care at a Catholic medical clinic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The doctor at Emmaus Health Partners refused to treat Tiffany Mourtardier for ADHD, citing the doctor’s “religious affiliation”. Never in His ministry on Earth did Jesus refuse to treat anyone because of a state of sin, and never did He say that changing gender presentation was a sin. For refusing treatment of a ground that Jesus never objected to, the doctor at Emmaus Health Partners gets a Twit Award. This story comes from Michigan Radio.
Former SNL cast member Rob Schneider this week accused Dylan Mulvaney of “gender appropriation.” Rob deliberately misgendered Ms. Mulvaney in the tweet. Rob starred in the movie The Hot Chick, an alleged comedy which was badly received by critics. He has also often performed roles in which he played members of other races, usually exaggerating cultural stereotypes. For projection, Rob Schneider gets a Twit Award. LGBtQ Nation has this story.
Pastor Henry Shaffer, a far-right preacher, warns that giving children androgynous nicknames will cause them to become transgender. He said, “The name that God gave them, the devil changed and shorted their name.” Mind you, their parents chose the name, not God. For deliberately misstating the origin of a child’s name, and for general silliness, Pastor Henry Shaffer gets a Twit Award. This story comes from LGBTQ Nation.
Project 2025, a new group connected to the Heritage Foundation, has put out a 920-page document which tells in detail what they feel that the next president should do. Of course, they presume that the next president will be a far-right Republican, who will follow an anti-woke agenda. Among the items that they wish to address is “Pornography, manifested today in the omnipresent propagation of transgender ideology and sexualization of children.” For describing transgender rights as “ideology” without realizing that the term applies to “deeply-held religious beliefs” as well, for promoting a spurious connection between gender dysphoria and pornography, and for denying medical conditions without understanding them, Project 2025 gets a Twit Award. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is the subject of an impeachment trial, for alleged corruption. Marjorie Taylor Greene says that he should not be convicted, because he has fought “Transifa.” First off, the term “Transifa” is a corruption of “Antifa,” a made-up term which pretty well admits that the far-right is at least aligned with fascists. Secondly, the fact that he fights her perceived enemies does not clear him of corruption charges. For using bad logic, and for insisting that everyone who opposes transgender rights should be given a get-out-of-corruption-charges-free card, Marjorie Taylor Greene gets a Twit Award. The Kids Online Safety Act is a legislative proposal which is supported by politicians from both political parties. Its co-sponsors in the Senate are Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). Its goal is to keep social media a safe place for children, although whether it would achieve that goal and what it would do to achieve it are debatable. Senator Blackburn recently said that the legislation was a way of “protecting minor children from the transgender in this culture and that influence.” Beyond concerns about grammar, the use of censorship to block information about a medical condition is a bad idea. In fact, even Senator Blackburn’s office, in a reply to Them, tried to separate the Kids Online Safety Act from the comments about transgender rights. Nonetheless, for making opposition to transgender rights a priority, Senator Marsha Blackburn gets a Twit Award.
