The MixBrasil Festival, regarded as the largest LGBTQIA+ culture festival in Latin America, started on the 10th and continues until November 21st with a hybrid format (part of the in-person programming and the other available online) bringing free cinema, theater, literature, conferences and several attractions.
Just for movies, the 29th edition of MixBrasil brings about 117 titles, among them, many awarded around the world and unpublished in Brazil such as the long-awaited “Benedetta” by Paul Verhoeven; “A Fratura” by Catherine Corsini, winner of the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival; “Being BeBe – The Story of BeBe Zahara Benet” by Emily Branham, documentary about the first winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race; “O Canto do Cisne” by Todd Stephens, starring actor Udo Kier; “Os Amores de Anaïs” by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet, official selection of the Cannes Film Festival Critics’ Week;Um Lugar Distante” by Park Kun-young, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Outfest Los Angeles; “Bliss“, by Henrika Kull, official selection of the Panorama of the Berlinale, Frameline and Queer Lisboa.
And, for the first time, the event that has been taking place in São Paulo since 1993 has the support and sponsorship of the social networking app SCRUFF, which, in addition to sending alerts to Brazilian users encouraging them to watch the programming and dissemination on their social networks, produced videos in animation to be shown before gay-themed feature films and short film programmes.
Presented by drag character Dona Scruff, the pieces give instructions to the audience in a relaxed way: asking moviegoers to turn off their cell phones and turn them back on after the film to use SCRUFF, as the Festival brings together very interesting people to flirt.
The action, which was planned by Octavio Andrade, illustration signed by Marco Leite Gomes Filho and with the assistance of Uibira Barelli in the script, also includes the distribution of SCRUFF PRO subscription vouchers at the Festival’s in-person events for the general public.
All the online programming of the 29th Mix Brasil Festival of Culture of Diversity can be accessed free of charge until the 21st at the website mixbrasil.org.br. Among the films are online the long-awaited “Boy Meets Boy” by Daniel Sánchez Lopéz, “Sweetheart”by Marley Morrison, “Wigudun, Alma de Dois Espíritos” by Fernando Muñoz and Raphael Salazar, “Máquina do Desejo” by Joaquim Castro and Lucas Weglinski, “Deus Tem AIDS” by Fábio Leal and Gustavo Vinagre, among others.
