On Wednesday, the Washington Post ran a short story entitled, “Walz made Minnesota a ‘trans refuge,’ championing gender-affirming care.” The next day, the New York Post ran a story entitled, “Tim Walz proudly turned Minnesota into a transgender haven-and a danger zone for kids.” The similarity between the titles is unlikely to be a coincidence. For presuming that doctors would rush to prescribe a bogus treatment, and for again making the prediction that a great many transitioners would become desisters even though there is no sign of this happening, The New York Post and others who promote anti-transgender legislation get a Twit Award.
Joe Rogan considers himself a comedian, although he is mostly known for his podcast these days. He has a new special on Netflix in which he performs a stand-up routine. Of course, it is less comedy, and more like the sort of observations he makes on his podcast. He seems obsessed about transgender women in the ladies’ room, which is hardly surprising to those who know his show, and also not as automatically funny as he seems to think. For failing to put the funny in his comedy routine, and for continuing to get all worked up about a potential problem which never presents itself in real life, as well as his conflating what a transgender woman does in the ladies’ room with what some cisgender guys would do in there, Joe Rogan gets a Twit Award. Mike Rogers, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, won the Republican primary for a Senate seat from Michigan this week. Even before the primary, he was focusing on drawing a distinction between himself and his Democratic opponent. His chosen topic for that distinction was the Biden administration’s new Title IX rules, and within those, he took on transgender women in sports. To help him out, he had Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan, two former college swimmers who lost to Lia Thomas and had their egos hurt. Neither of these former swimmers is an expert on the science of what HRT will do to the body, but they feel that science is unimportant in this discussion. For relying on people who are not experts, and for advocating for discrimination on the basis of hurt feelings, Mike Rogers gets a Twit Award. The Detroit Free Press has this story.
As we mentioned in the news, Imane Khelif won the gold medal in boxing within her weight division. Ms. Khelif is a cisgender woman, but a gender test administered by a disgraced and corrupt organization which used to govern boxing came back with a questionable result. Although she was proclaimed female by a doctor at birth, and has passed several gender tests, the only thing that some people consider is the one result where she supposedly failed the test. No one knows what the test involved or what her exact result was, but these seem to be mere details to some people. One of those people is JD Vance, the Senator from Ohio and Republican candidate for Vice-President. Mr. Vance tried to tie the whole thing to Kamala Harris, despite the fact that she had nothing to do with the rules for who may compete in the Olympics. For pushing the result of one test without knowing what the test was or what the result was (or what the circumstances surrounding it were), and for trying to tie all this to someone who had nothing to do with the creation of the Olympic rules, Senator JD Vance gets a Twit Award. Andrew Tate is a far-right influencer who has accused transgender people of being part of a “psyop” to normalize children changing gender. He recently posted a picture of himself in a tight swimsuit, showing off his male physique. Several online commenters said that he was missing the usual male part between the legs, and concluded that he is transgender. Now, to be sure, some of these people were likely just kidding, giving him a bit of what he gives to others. But, there appear to be some who are at least a bit serious. Those serious people get a Twit Award. This story comes from PinkNews has this story.
Donald Trump seems to be having some difficulty finding a way to attack Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. It does not help hat he is known to say some of the wildest things there are. One of his latest attacks is that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are “heavy into the transgender world.” The two of them are advocates for transgender rights, it has indeed been an issue with them for a while. However, to say that they are “heavy into the transgender world,” as Mr. Trump did during his press conference on Thursday, is to make implications which are at best unproven. For not caring about whether the allegation implies something untrue, and for supporting discrimination, Former President Donald Trump gets a Twit Award. This story comes from The Advocate.
