Elon Musk has been celebrating Pride month with an attack on transgender rights. He tried to promote Matt Walsh’s film What Is A Woman, although Twitter had ruled that the film violated its standards for hateful conduct, and limited its visibility. He then shared the film on his own Twitter account. For promoting a film which his own team has described as “hateful,” and for promoting the demonization of others, Elon Musk gets a Twit Award. During the same week in which he announced his candidacy for President of the United States, Mike Pence announced his support for a federal ban on gender-affirming care for minors. For violating his party’s long-standing principal of a small government that leaves individuals and families free to make their own decisions, and for failing to listen to doctors who promote science, Mike Pence gets a Twit Award. Mike Pence is far from the only Republican candidate for President who has promoted anti-LGBTQ, and especially anti-transgender, legislation. For promotion of big government regulation of gender identity while talking about their love of small government which allows individual liberty, and for failing to stand up against people who tie their personal prejudices to their religious views, the Republican candidates for President get a Twit Award. Nikki Haley is a Republican candidate for President, and a former Governor of South Carolina, as well as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations under President Trump. This week, at a CNN Town Hall, she tried to make a connection between transgender athletes in girls’ sports and suicide ideation in cisgender girls. Suicide ideation is much higher among transgender females than cisgender females, but apparently she is unconcerned about the same issue among transgender females. For making a link with no data to back it up, blaming a group for something which no science shows is to blame, and for promoting prejudice, Nikki Haley gets a Twit Award. CNN has this story.
