Brazil has reached a new milestone in inclusive tourism by achieving 5,749 accommodations certified with Booking.com’s Travel Proud seal. This number represents a 125% increase compared to last year and positions the country as the sixth worldwide with the most certified lodgings, behind Italy, Denmark, Spain, France, and the United States. In Latin America, Brazil leads the ranking.

The Travel Proud program was launched in 2021 with the goal of increasing confidence and fostering a welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ travelers. The initiative offers free training in inclusive hospitality for accommodation providers, encouraging practices that take into account the unique challenges faced by this community.

Currently, more than 100,000 accommodations in 150 countries and 16,000 destinations are part of the program — a 49% increase compared to the 67,000 registered in June 2024. This global growth reflects a broader movement of increased commitment by tourism companies to inclusive practices.

For LGBTQ+ travelers, this kind of visibility can be crucial. According to a survey commissioned by the platform itself and conducted in April and May 2024 with 11,469 LGBTQ+ travelers from 27 countries, 75% of Brazilian respondents said it is essential to be able to be their authentic selves while traveling. The survey also found that 60% stated their LGBTQIA+ identity directly influences how they plan their trips, and 82% feel more comfortable when they notice progress in inclusion within the travel industry.

The Travel Proud badge can be seen on the pages of participating accommodations on the platform, serving as an indicator that the property has completed the training and is prepared to welcome guests with a more conscious and respectful approach.
